  • Bronze Statute of Pushkin Settled in Ningbo
    The unveiling ceremony for the bronze statue of Pushkin, the famous poet of Russia, was held last week by the bank of the Yuyao River, close to the Grand Theater. The statute is two meters tall, made of red bronze. It was designed by the famous sculpturers Gregory and Potocki. The statue is vividly made, true to life, presenting a splendid image of the great poet. Pushkin was an important literary figure of Russia in the 19th Century. He is honored as Father of Russian Literature and Sun of Russian Poetry.


  • Donation of Rh-negative blood for the Olympics

    People are focusing on the Beijing Olympics these days. Some people choose to do something for the Olympics. Last Tuesday, some 400 volunteers came to the central blood station to donate blood.

    Unlike previous donations, the donors this time are all Rh-negative ones. RH-negative blood is very rare in China, no less than 0.3%, but in Europe it’s about 15%. As many western people are in China for the Olympic Games, there might be a big demand on RH-negative blood. For this consideration, the blood station call for people of RH-negative blood to donate. The blood they donate will be mainly for the use of the Olympics Shanghai Venue. 

     “I think this is a good way to help with the Olympics. It's very meaningful”, said a blood donor.



  • Ningbo People Happy with Life with Olympics

    As the Beijing Olympics is going on in full swing, people are having a good time watching the games. They are especially enthusiastic about the games that involve Chinese athletes. Even those who are not interested in sports in ordinary times would like to tune in the CCTV channels to watch the live broadcasting.

    No matter in waiting halls of the bus stations, the train station or in stores you will find people watching the Olympic Games these days. They cheer for the athletes and share the happy moments when a medal is obtained.

    Though I can not go to Beijing I'm happy with watching the Games on TV. I pay particular attention to those events where Chinese athletes are most likely to win medals.

    Unlike those working in daytime who can only snatch some time to watch the games,elderly people can watch the games live at home all day. 

    A citizen said : "Yesterday I watched the gymnastics match. The little girls did wonderfully. They won the champion. We cheered a lot. We are proud of China."

    Now the Olympic Games has been going on for about a week and China has temporarily ranked the first in the number of gold medals. People believe that in coming days Chinese athletes will win many more medals. . 

    Another citizen said: "I hope they could give their best, surpass themselves and win more gold medals for the country."



  • Ningbo Energy-Saving Questionaire Held

    In order to raise the energy-saving and environment-protection awareness of children of migrating workers, Zhaobaoshan Street jointly with the Administration of Power Supply in Zhenhai held a energy-saving questionaire among the kids there.

  • Education-Aid Fever in Ningbo

    The other day, an education-aid program was held in the News and Cultural Square in Ningbo Daily Newspapering Groups. Though the weather was so hot, the education-aid will of citizens didn’t reduce. Through the morning, almost 500 Sichuan students got their donor.



  • Olympic Games Experienced

    The Beijing Olympics has been going on for nine days. Chinese athletes have been winning medals one after another. People can either go to the venues or stay home watching the games live on TV. For those who want to experience the Olympics, there is another place to go, that is, the China Millennium Monument in Beijing, where a large-scale exhibition named One World One Dream is put on. Let's see the report brought to us by our correspondent Ying Dongle.

    Upon entering the exhibition hall, one will find the machines placed in the front most eye-catching. As long as you input the number of your ticket and put your palms on the fingerprint collector, the information of your palms will go into the system. The finger prints are said to be permanently kept in the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. This is a good way for the general public to take part in the Olympics, according to the organizer.

    A visitor said : " Though we can not go to the venues to watch the games, this is a good way for us to be involved in the Olympics."

    Apart from this interesting way of engaging visitors, there are a lot of exhibits about the Olympics and the achievements of Chinese athletes. There are torches of the Olympiad of the past sessions and various kinds of sports facilities, including the entrance card of the Chinese athlete for the 1936 session of the Olympics, the sportswear of Liu Xiang and his running shoes, the mascots and badges, etc. The exhibits include thousands of documents, articles and photos, which give an all-around show of the Olympic Games in history.

     Another visitor said : "It is very nice and inspiring. I'm very proud that China can host this Olympics."



  • Ningbo Urban Plans Passed

    Three urban plans were examined and passed at an executive meeting of the city government last week. The three plans are respectively the Urban Design for the Yu-Ci Core Area, the Zoning Plan for Zhouxiang of North Yuyao, and the Overall Transportation Plan for the Central Yu-Ci Area.  The Yu-Ci core area is a junction of the urban areas of Cixi, Yuyao and the Zhouxiang District, covering 56.72 square kilometers. According to the plans, base on the ecological landscape and the high-speed railway station, this area is to be developed into an ecological urban area and a transportation hub, to be armed with such functions as tourism, recreation and production services.



  • Ningbo Olympics in Images

    Chinese people are all enthusiastic about the Beijing Olympics and many people are recording the great event in various ways. Wu Wei, a teacher with the Zhejiang Textiles and Garments College, created a huge oil painting that consists of 45 scenes. He named the painting Image Memory of Famous Olympic Athletes of China. 

    The painting of Image Memory of the Famous Olympic Athletes is hung on the wall the studio of Wu Wei. Each of the 45 paintings is about half a meter wide. Wu Wei started to paint them in March this year. He just uses black and white images to show the charm of the famous athletes. After four months of industrious work, he finally finished them before the opening of the Games.
     
    Wu Wei plans to add some images of athletes after the Games is concluded. He wants to increase the number of images to 50. Wu Wei believes what is important does not lie on the painting itself, but the profound understanding of the Olympic spirit. 

    Wu Wei, a teacher of Zhejiang Textiles and Garments College said: “I feel we sometimes need to learn from the athletes. Very often we want to give up or refrain from doing something we want to do. When you set a goal, you need to work on it.”



  • Bayin Chaolu Calls For Better Services For Companies
    Party Secretary Bayin Chaolu made an inspection tour to Zhenhai and Yinzhou last week. He investigated into the campaign of rendering better services for companies. He stressed that the government is very much concerned with the problems confronting the companies and he required government departments help out with the companies in difficulties. He said the government should do the best to help companies with the upgrading and restructuring.


  • Mobile Books to Remote Villages

    Recently ,residents in the most remote village of Xiangshan can have books to read as people in rural areas do. The other day, Xiangshan Library sent 500 pieces of books to Xiabajiao Village. Thus, residents there can read books sent from the city in the mobile library.

  • Audi Sets an Exhibition Hall in Ningbo
    The first Audi Exhibition Hall in Asia opened in Yinzhou District. The Ningbo Zhongji Audi service center with a total area of 11,200 square kilometers is for products, service and Brand Experience, and it is under the direct management of Audi Headquarters. The German headquarters settles the City Exhibit Hall in Ningbo for they are optimistic about the development prospect of Ningbo's modern service industry and the fairly high purchasing power of its citizens.


  • Teleconference on Safety in Production
    The provincial government held a teleconference on production safety last week. The meeting analyzed the status quo of the production safety across the province and made some arrangements on strengthening that during the Olympic Games. It required that during the Games, more efforts be made in ensuring safety of hazardous chemicals, road transportation, warehousing of petrochemicals, explosives, fireworks, etc. Particular precautions must be taken in piers, stations, entertainment places, hospitals and schools. Meanwhile, the safety measures on bridges, tunnels, reservoirs, scenic spots and airports must be strengthened.
